چکیده

Purpose: To describe the characteristic CT findings of ameloblastomas in the mandibleand maxilla . Materials and Methods: CT findings of 11 patients with ameloblastoma(9 cases in the mandible and 2 cases in the maxilla} proved by excisional biopsy were evaluated retrospectively with regard to the location , size, multilocularity, solid and cystic component , cortical destruction , soft tissue invasion , and contrast enhancement Results: Thesewere 8 multilculer expansile and 1 unicystic (developed in a dentigerous cyst) mandibler ameloblasftomas, and 2 unilocular maxillary ameloblasftomas. AII cases showed inhomogenously enhancing solid component, nine of which were larger than cystic component. Ninecases, largerthan 5 cm in diameter, revealed either a focal or extensive cortical destruction with various degree of invasion into the adjacent structures. One maxillary ameloblastoma contained a thick calcification along the margin ofthe lesion. Conclusion: Maxillomandibular ameloblastomas appeared as expansile lesion containing enhancing solid component relatively larger than cystic portion and having cortical destruction in large lesions(5cm> ). Maxillary ameloblastomas were unilocular in appearance in spite of multilocularity in mandibular counterparts.

Histopathologic features and management of ameloblastoma: study of 20 cases.

BACKGROUND Odontogenic ameloblastoma (OA) of the jaws is a rare neoplasia of the oral cavity (0.78%) with a 5:1 mandible/maxilla relation, with the molar region and the ascendant ramus being the most affected areas. Comparing our results with the literature demonstrated to us that this tumor may be considered to be a worldwide problem due to the similarity in clinical findings among different e...

This lesion has 3 types: luminal, intraluminal and mural. The diagnosis of unicystic ameloblastoma is based on histopathology and radiological characteristics. Objective: This study attempts to determine the prevalence of unicystic a...

Multilocular Radiolucency in the Body of Mandible: A Systematic Diagnostic Approach

Multilocular radiolucencies are produced by multiple, adjacent, frequently coalescing and overlapping pathologic compartments in bone. A number of lesions produce multilocular radiolucencies of the jaws. These are more common in the mandible as compared to the maxilla. To help the practitioner arrive at a working (clinical) diagnosis through the differential diagnosis process a systematic appro...

Ameloblastoma of the maxilla: CT and MR appearance.

This paper describes the CT and MR appearance of an ameloblastoma that involved the maxilla, infratemporal fossa, and adjacent structures. Although not pathognomonic, the multicystic appearance of an ameloblastoma may suggest the correct diagnosis.
